Boat Poker Run and Radar Run
September 16th, 2017
Morehead City, NC
What started out as a boyhood passion has become one of the most popular events on the Morehead City Waterfront. A small group of volunteers put together an event for the locals and invited guests and participants from as far away as Florida. We welcome everyone to the Crystal Coast, one of the most beautiful coasts on the east coast. Let’s take a ride in our boats for a good cause.
NC East Sports, a non-profit organization, is dedicated to engage, gather and inspire family, friends and visitors of all ages from all over the country to the Crystal Coast, focusing on local support for a seasonal community and provide an action pact event for participants and spectators and boating enthusiasts.
We consider the LookOut ShootOut Poker Run and Radar Run a welcome addition to all the activities that take place on and around the intracoastal waterway. The Poker Run is a Saturday event that takes you to stops in Swansboro, Cape Lookout, Beaufort and Morehead City to compete for the best poker hand. There is a blackjack option available as well. Then on Sunday the waterway is ours to host the Radar Run where boats compete for their best time on a mile long course.
We are proud to announce that our 2017 Charity Partner is Children With Hair Loss. Their mission is to empower these children to become whole again by making hair available to those who may be financially challenged and might otherwise not have a means of obtaining the hair they want and need.
Their goal is to assist as many of these children as possible in changing their lives by improving their outlook and empowering them with a degree of self confidence that will allow them to face the world with renewed self esteem.
Lookout Shootout 2016 wrap up..
To sum up the 2016 Lookout Shootout Boat Poker Run in one word…AWESOME! There were 24 entries in Poker and Blackjack hands with folks joining us from up and down the east coast. They started coming in early on Thursday and took over the bask hotel and the Jaycee Park boat slips. Passerby’s would stop and watch the boats tying up at Jack’s on the beautiful floating docks that E-Z Dock supplied for us for the event. With great weather for the weekend we started registration on Friday night and then continued on Saturday morning with breakfast treats and coffee provided by Chick-Fil-A and Sweet Beans Coffee & Café. The race course this year had participating boats visiting Casper’s Marina in Swansboro, a stop at the Cape and enjoyed lunch at the raft up. But all eyes were on the card tables when the participants returned to Jack’s Waterfront Bar. With over 36 hands of Poker and over 23 hands of Blackjack to play we were happy to have delicious food from Floyd’s 1921 to keep us filled up for the competition. And what a competition it was…. when all the cards were played it looks like there was definitely some luck following the Virgina crew!
1st place Poker – – Mark Cutler from Chocowinity NC
2nd place Poker – – David Miller from Virgina
3rd place Poker – – Cheryl Bucenell from Chesapeake VA
Blackjack – – Josh Tawes from Smithfield VA
This will go down in the record book as another fun and festive day and SUPER SUCCESSFUL as the event was able to raise $6000 to donate to our 2016 Charity – – The Carteret County Humane Society! Pat yourselves on the back and hug and kiss your pets and feel good about this grand accomplishment!
We couldn’t have this much fun without the help of all of our sponsors. Thank you to R.A. Jeffrey’s Distributing and Jack’s Waterfront Bar for being our presenting sponsors and the next time you are at Jack’s look up… all of our sponsors have magnets on display above the bar showing their support of this event!
Special thanks to all the volunteers, the participants and the committee members that help keep this event happening every year!! Let the planning begin for the 2017 Fall Lookout Shootout!
