Look Out Shoot Out Boat Race Series 2015

What started out as a boyhood passion has become one of the most popular events on the Morehead City Waterfront. A small group of volunteers put together an event for the locals and invited guests and participants from as far away as Florida. We welcome everyone to the Crystal Coast, one of the most beautiful coasts on the east coast. Let’s take a ride in our boats for a good cause.

NC East Sports, a non-profit organization, is dedicated to engage, gather and inspire family, friends and visitors of all ages from all over the country to the Crystal Coast, focusing on local support for a seasonal community and provide an action pact event for participants and spectators and boating enthusiasts.

Look Out Shoot Out Boat Poker Run and Radar Run

September 19-20, 2015

Morehead City, NC

We consider the LookOut ShootOut Poker Run and Radar Run a welcome addition to all the activities that take place on and around the intracoastal waterway.   The Poker Run is a Saturday event that takes you to stops in Swansboro, Cape Lookout, Beaufort and Morehead City to compete for the best poker hand.  There is a blackjack option available as well. Then on Sunday the waterway is ours to host the Radar Run where boats compete for their best time on a mile long course.

To sum up the 2015 Lookout Shootout Boat Poker Run in one word…EXCITEMENT!  There were 35 entries in Poker and Blackjack hands with folks joining us from Virginia to Florida.  They started coming in early on Thursday and took over the bask hotel and the Jaycee Park boat slips.  Passerby’s would stop and watch the boats tying up at Jack’s on the beautiful floating docks that E-Z Dock supplied for us for the event.   With great weather for the weekend we started registration on Friday night and then continued on Saturday morning with breakfast treats and coffee provided by Sweet Beans Coffee & Café.  The new race course this year was both a challenge and a welcome change as boats visited Casper’s Marina in Swanboro, went by the Cape and enjoyed lunch at the raft up provided by Outer Banks Marine Construction.  But all eyes were on the card tables when the participants returned to Jack’s Waterfront Bar.   With over 80 hands of Poker and over 20 hands of Blackjack to play we were happy to have delicious food from Floyd’s 1921 to keep us filled up for the competition.    And what a competition it was…. It was a three way tie for Blackjack, each hand with an Ace and a Queen.  The three competitors drew cards to determine the winner and top card was Amanda Parham from Hertford NC.   The first place poker hand winner was an early lead by Matt Cole of Morehead City NC.  He had four of a kind in 6’s.  He was often found hanging out by the card tables keeping an eye on his lead and getting a bit nervous when there were cheers from the crowds.  Thank you Matt for your generous donation back to the charity!  In a crazy turn of events 2nd and 3rd place poker hands were another tie!! Both hands with a straight from a nine to the King.  Once again we found the competitors drawing cards to determine the winner.  Third place was awarded to Dan Davies of Batavia IL with a special “biggest heart” award, which were hand crafted by Nauti Metal Design, for paying to play so many extra hands of Poker!  Dan decided to give back his winnings to charity.  Second place was awarded to Brian Forehand of Wilmington NC and he generously gave back his winnings to our 2015 charity, Special Olympics of NC.

We couldn’t have this much fun without the help of all of our sponsors.  Thank you to R.A. Jeffrey’s Distributing and Jack’s Waterfront Bar for being our presenting sponsors and the next time you are at Jack’s look up… all of our sponsors have magnets on display above the bar showing their support of this event!

Special thanks to all the volunteers, the participants and the committee members that help keep this event happening every year!!  Let the planning begin for the 2016 Spring and Fall Lookout Shootout Series!

We are proud to partner with Special Olympics as our charity recipient for our 2015 series.  Thanks to all of our participants and sponsors this event was able to give $1200 to a Special Needs house for necessary furniture and $3000 to Special Olympics of NC Pitt County!!

The mission of Special Pitt County Mock LogoOlympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
